SUNDAY’S 10AM SERVICE AT THE FIREHOUSE

WE BEGIN ADVENT SUNDAY

This Sunday, we begin Advent. Let us prepare our hearts to celebrate and rejoice over the fact that the Christmas Season is ‘the dawn of redeeming grace.’

WE ARE GOING THROUGH 1ST JOHN TOGETHER

David Klaus preaches this Sunday. He will be working through our 1st John Series, picking up in 1st John 2:15, working toward the end of the chapter.

Our Passage to Recite and Memorize for This Series

“And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.” (1st John 3:23, ESV).

Childcare Available, Ages 0-4

Childcare will be offered during our Tent Gatherings for children, ages 0-4. Childcare will be held in the Truth Spring Trade School Daycare, located at 3303 5th Ave. It is the white house with white picket fence and 2 blue doors. We have a terrific team of volunteers comprised of people who attend Highland. Thank you, all, for caring for our children. Donna Findley is our Coordinator. She’s doing a great job! Thank you, Donna! Volunteers will be ready to receive 0-4 year-old aged-children by 9:50am.

David and Kimberly will also speak to us about an event that is upcoming December 1oth, at 7:30pm. David and Kimberly will be hosting an evening where they will inform all who attend about what’s taking place in Myanmar. Highland, we are all welcome to attend and I would like to encourage you to come and be part! I hope to see you there. It will take place in our original sanctuary.

I love you, Highland,

Rob

SUNDAY’S 10AM SERVICE AT THE FIREHOUSE

Noah strickland leads us in worship

When we finished up lunch last Sunday, Noah and I had a few moments to talk at the table. It ranged from Sunday’s service to plans for the week. It was a moment that was stiller than usual in a typically busy house-hold. He then grabbed the guitar and started plucking as background music to our conversation.

He started playing some riffs from Breakfast Choir songs - riffs I am not good enough to play - and it sounded great. Then, he asked if he could lead the church in a worship service one Sunday. I was so moved, Highland. My son, who has been raised at Highland, is hopeful to lead us in corporate-worship. It was a moment I will cherish forever! Not only is my son playing well and loving Highland-classics like, “Walk with Me, Lord”, but he is also a young man who seeks to personally walk with the Lord. The integrity and sturdy faith he displays makes me so proud of him! What more could a dad ask for than for his son to walk personally with Christ? There is no other who satisfies.

As Noah leads us this Sunday in worship, realize that we have all shared a part in raising him, Highland. We will all join with the Psalmist who said: “One generation commends Your works to another; they tell of Your mighty acts” (Psalm 145:4).

Childcare Available, Ages 0-4

Childcare will be offered during our Tent Gatherings for children, ages 0-4. I hope you all had a joyous Thanksgiving!

I am grateful for you.

I love you, Highland.

See you Sunday,

Rob

Happy Thanksgiving, Highland.

Highland,

Our hearts abound in joy over you! Carrie and I often recount the ongoing abundance of our Lord’s goodness that we find in you! We have endured so much together and we’re even stronger for it! Through the sealing and unifying work of the Spirit of God, we continue to experience ‘a hope that does not disappoint.’ We have all unified around His purposes and His preferences, not our own. As a result, His glory resounds in us – just a band of sinners boasting about the goodness of Jesus! I am so grateful to serve the Highland Family!

I love you, Highland,

Rob

A Strong Confidence

“In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence and his children have a refuge.”
— Proverbs 14:26

We rallied around these families last Sunday, as they dedicated their hearts and homes to be dwelling places of the Lord. Our children then can find rest in His presence, which is our peace and protection.

Just a few refreshers from our Dedication Service:

  • Our children need to see that we live devoted lives to Jesus.

  • Our children need to know the Word because we know the Word.

  • “Our children can tolerate our imperfections; they cannot tolerate our hypocrisy.” – Andy Merritt

Highland, let us continue to remain huddled around these families in prayer, love, support and a Christ-centered devotion, as they raise these little ones.

Grateful for ALL of our Highland children,

Rob

1st John Series Refresher

God’s Redeeming Love

Redeeming love rescues us from a helpless, orphan-like estate and affords us a family to which we belong. God’s love redeems us from our sinful estate He adpots us and calls us son and daughters. As a child who is an orphan is adopted, they have been redeemed by their adopting-family. That family-like relationship bears meaning and results in our hearts loving, thereby obeying, because we love Him, as a Father, and delight to share in His holy-nature (Romans 8; Hebrews 12).

As an orphan is adopted, that is a joyous, life-renewing experience! Even though this child who was an orphan has been adopted, though, simultaneously they are carrying with them the trauma of being an orphan - but it’s their adoptive-status actually defines them. 1st John helps us learn how to grow into that identity. Below is our framework for God’s redeeming love, which we covered last Sunday. Review these passage and rejoice with me over how our heavenly Father loves His sons and daughters:

‘For God so loved the world…’

• God offers His love through Jesus to the entire world (John 3:16; 1st John 2:2)

His love is forgiving and fatherly

• Repentant sinners receive forgiveness for sin through Christ and become children of God (Romans 8:6-8; 8:16)

Knowing Him, we cannot help but to love Him back.

• This family-like relationship with God bears meaning in our lives through causing us to delight to share in His holy-nature (Hebrews 12:5-7)

Service Plans This Weekend

WE ARE GOING THROUGH 1ST JOHN TOGETHER

Highland, this Firehouse Gathering Season is enjoyable for me! I am LOVING the chance to gather and go through 1st John together! My heart, as Justin would put it, is being saturated with the refreshing water of God’s Word, as I prepare these sermons.

This Sunday, we will be in 1st John 1:5-10. Though we have never walked through 1st John together, as a church, this passage has really tuned my heart as to how to care for people who walk through this dark world. “ Walk in the light” is an encouragement that I often offer those upon our sidewalks to navigate through the darkness of this world. I look forward to preaching through this passage that holds that directive. See you Sunday!

Our Passage to Recite and Memorize for This Series

“And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.” (1 John 3:23-23, ESV).

HOUSEKEEPING MATTERS

  • BOL collection: Dishsoap. Bring to the firehouse. To those who’ve brought in some, thank you!

  • Great job cleaning up last Sunday! Let us all continue to make an effort to clean up the trash in the firehouse and around the grounds of the firehouse, too, after service.

  • Let’s stick to our Bible Reading Plan — Keep going, Highland! Be ready to connect with Justin.
