Our Weekly Update

Kenslie was baptized Sunday.

“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).

Highland, let’s rally around Kenslie, along with all the other children, in prayer and love! Let’s continue to welcome our little one with open arms. They are listening to us and they are watching us; may we be found as a corporate expression of His glory!

“One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made” (Psalm 145:4—9).

Let’s help patti feel welcome!

This Friday, from 11:30am–1pm, you are invited to join us at Truth Spring’s Open House. The address is 3225 6th Avenue. We also welcome Patti Clark to her home, as she’s moving into one of these renovated homes! One of the ways we could help make her house a home is by stocking her pantry with a few of her favorite things. Please consider bringing one of the items found on the list below to the Open House this Friday.

Our Firehouse Gathering (church service) will be held at 10am, in the Firehouse. All are welcome! This Sunday, be prepared for members of our Prayer Gathering to tell us about an experience that the Lord allowed them to have recently. They were supposed to share last Sunday, but plans were changed and they will share this upcoming Sunday.

magnificent Move series

Highland, my hope throughout this ‘Magnificent-Move’ series has been to highlight the Scriptures which serve as the backbone of Highland Community Church. In so bringing these passages to the forefront of our view, it is my aim that we continue to mature in alignment with who the Lord has fashioned to be, as the Highland–Tribe. As we continue to see the road forward as one of our maturation, then we will continue to take the proper posture of strength in this new and EXCITING upcoming chapter within the life of Highland.

Over the last several weeks, we have allowed our hearts to really marinate in Romans 15:1-7. As we transition, my ultimate goal throughout this process is to do what Paul states in verses six and seven, which is: “…that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” We are well on our way to doing just this, Highland. Let us continue traveling down this road, thereby resulting in our move putting on display the magnificence of Jesus!

our plan for this Sunday

This Sunday, we talk more about how Paul directs us to strike perfect harmonies. We will be correlating these two passages:

First Passage

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:5-7).

Second Passage

“And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:14-16).

What results in our perfect harmony? LOVE! This is where we will be this Sunday, Highland.

We Honor Our Fallen

“Oh beautiful for heroes proved

In liberating strife

Who more than self, their country loved

And mercy more than life”

A verse from: “America The Beautiful”

Our freedom is not free. Today, we pause to honor those who’ve bravely laid down their lives, providing us the privilege to live and rest in our abounding American-liberty. America’s the greatest country upon the globe, Highland. Let us continue to pray for our nation. As we strengthen our knees to endure in prayer, let us maintain this proper perspective: that it is the prayer-life of this nation that sustains her, not her political-life. Let us seek the Lord, asking that His purposes prevail for America, this land which we love. Let’s fashion our prayer-life from the lyrics of one of my favorite songs, as it is so fitting:

“God bless America, land that I love

Stand beside her and guide her

Through the night with the light from above”

A verse from: “God Bless America”

God bless America,

Rob

“Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Cultivating life and the glory of jesus

Looking back to last Sunday, Highland, thank you for opening the door through your testimonies for my son, Noah, to be able to share how the Lord is at work in his life right now. PLANS FOR SUNDAY MORNING

Come grab a cup of coffee this Sunday morning at 9am at the Firehouse during Coffee & Conversation. Following that good cup of coffee, join us for our 10am Firehouse Gathering (our church service) to gather in order to celebrate with us the good news that Jesus saves sinners.

Robert continues to lead our Men’s Bible Study each Sunday morning, at 9am, in the educational wing of our facility. All men are welcome to attend and engage the discussion about God’s Word. Such a great group of men make up this study! Never too late to join.

come to celebrate what jesus has done for us

During our Firehouse Gathering this Sunday, we will be looking at the ‘fruits of a compassionate heart,’ which is found in Colossians 3:12–17:

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:12-17, ESV).

To make this magnificent move and maintain our harmony, these qualities must define us, no matter what changes we may face. For these fruits foster harmony and also, as Paul points out, paves the road to reconciliation when we hit the bumps. If we conduct ourselves according to these qualities, we can endure anything, as the Spirit of God has command of us. I look forward to walking carefully through this text together.

Our Weekly Update

Setting the stage for Sunday

Highland, I hope your week is going well! I am looking forward to seeing you all this weekend. This Sunday, we continue to look at how we can move into our new facility in a “magnificent” way. That being said, the way to move magnificently is to take on the correct heart-posture toward what the Lord is doing in us and through us. Last Sunday, we saw what “bearing with the failings of the weak” (Romans 15; Isaiah 58) looks like, as a church relates to a community.

This Sunday, we will take another look at the word: bear as it relates to one another. In Romans 15, Paul tells us to pursue harmony with one another. So, this week, we will look at this passage, which serves as our direction as to how to strike harmonious tones with one another:

“Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful” (Colossians 3:12–15).

I am excited to unpack this passage with you, Highland.

PLANS FOR SUNDAY MORNING

Coffee and Conversation each Sunday morning at 9am allows us the chance to enjoy the company of one another in the presence of Christ! His name is lifted up even higher than our circumstances! We also enjoy hot breakfast sandwiches and coffee together, thanks to our breakfast team. Shoutout especially to James Gamble for grabbing our biscuits each Sunday morning.

Robert Singleton is leading our Men’s Study each Sunday morning, 9am, in the educational building of Highland. Very applicable look at Scripture, and it’s discussive! All men are welcome to attend.

Kids’ Sunday is happening this Sunday. Please drop off your children who are 5 and up at the original sanctuary to get checked in. During the service, children will either be in the classrooms off the deck for a Bible lesson or a craft. Outdoor games will be held in the Stricklands’ backyard as well. Furthermore, if you’re interested in helping with Kids’ Sundays, please talk to Julie Jordan, Katie Sturgeon or Carol Wright. As soon as service concludes, please make arrangements to pick up your children.

I appreciate all of who’ve shared your testimony with the church. The fruits in our lives that’s produced by the Holy Spirit is intended to be shared; thank you for sharing it with us. It has nourished us all.

This Sunday, during our Firehouse Gathering at 10am, Justin and I will take time to speak more about “the Magnificent Move” – based upon Romans 15:1–6:

We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have hit this passage with some broad strokes. This Sunday, we will take a closer look at how we are to “bear with the failings of the weak.” The word, “bear” means share in carrying the weight of something – so, in this case, we are to carry the weight of and support those who are weak, even as they fail. How do we do that? That is the question we will seek to answer. Justin will also jump in and help shape our understanding, as it relates to how we move forward, Highland.

Childcare Available, Ages 0-4

Childcare will be offered during our Firehouse Gatherings for children, ages 0-4. Childcare will be held in the Truth Spring Trade School Daycare, located at 3303 5th Ave. It is the white house with white picket fence and 2 blue doors. We have a terrific team of volunteers comprised of people who attend Highland. Thank you, all, for caring for our children. Donna Findley is our Coordinator. She’s doing a great job! Thank you, Donna! Volunteers will be ready to receive 0-4 year-old aged-children by 9:50am.

I love you, Highland. I look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Rob

“…and they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them” (Revelation 12:11, ESV).

TESTIMONIES

I am loving these testimonies, Highland! As the Lord is establishing His plans before our eyes, He’s at work presently within us, Highland! We are strengthening, humbled before His greatness, submissive to and sharing within His holy-nature. The testimony that is baptism is one that resounds throughout heaven and earth! Oh, the heavens rejoice when even one repents, submitting to Jesus. May we continue to see this passage from Romans come to life in us, as His people: “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” (Romans 15:5–6).

This Sunday, testimonies continue, as we continue to ‘glorify our Lord and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with a united mind and voice’ (Romans 15). The Firehouse Gathering (our church service) will be held at 10am – 3402 6th Ave.

It is evident through these testimonies and the unfolding of the Lord’s plans before our eyes that He is moving amongst us, Highland. Let us continue to build up one another, seeking the pleasure of our neighbor, according to what is holy and honorable in the sight of our Lord. Here is the passage that we are allowing our hearts to marinate within right now:

“Now we who are strong have an obligation to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves. Each one of us must please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For even the Messiah did not please Himself. On the contrary, as it is written, ‘The insults of those who insult You have fallen on Me.’ For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures. Now may the God who gives endurance and encouragement allow you to live in harmony with one another, according to the command of Christ Jesus, so that you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with a united mind and voice” (Romans 15:1-6).

CHICKEN & RICE THIS SATURDAY, 10am

PLANS FOR SUNDAY MORNING

There’s a hot breakfast sandwich waiting for you each Sunday mornings in the Firehouse, at 9am. Come grab one and a cup of coffee at Coffee & Conversation! We spend time together in worship and in the Word of God.

Robert Singleton continues to lead our men and to steadily offer our men the chance to walk according to God’s Word. He is in the education-building of our church site. All men are welcome to attend.

Our church service (Firehouse Gathering) will be held at 10am. This Sunday, we will hear more testimonies of how the Lord is at work in our lives, as His children. Being able to grow together means that we must share life together!

Last Sunday, though we only had two people scheduled for testimonies, 2 more asked. Of course, when a person’s willing to share with us how the Lord has rescued them from their sin and redeemed them, how unwise I would be to stand in their way! The Spirit of God works beyond my sermon-notes!

We will continue to hear testimonies this week from those that the Lord’s rescued! Given that the Lord allows us time, I will continue to unpack this passage in our new series entitled: “The Magnificent Move” which takes a practical look at our posture as we move into the next chapter of Highland’s life. This series is rooted in this text below:

I am excited to see this passage come to life in us, Highland.

CHICKEN & RICE THIS SATURDAY, 10am

PLANS FOR SUNDAY MORNING

Sunday mornings, at 9am, come grab a coffee and breakfast sandwich during Coffee and Conversation! This time together is so simple, yet so meaningful, in the life of our church. All are welcome to come and grab a cup of coffee and take part in the conversation. We also worship and spend time in God’s Word, as Jo Ellen Holbrook offers us a devotion.

Men’s Bible Study is held each Sunday morning at 9am. Robert Singleton leads our men and continues to steadily offer our men the chance to walk according to God’s Word. He is in the education-building of our church site. All men are welcome to attend.

Our church service (Firehouse Gathering) will be held at 10am. This Sunday, we will open up a topical-series in which my son, Jude, so sweetly titled: “The Magnificent Move.” The purpose of this topical-series is to draw our attention to how we are to prepare our hearts to make the “magnificent-move” into the new facility the Lord’s providing for us.

Our heart’s posture being humble and honorable throughout this transition is an essential ingredient to this move being done well. Our foundational-text will be: Romans 15:1-6:

I look forward to opening up this series with you this Sunday.

Family Matters

Stephen Wright and Billy Holbrook are organizing a community-wide Basketball Clinic. The plan is for it to take place at Fox Elementary’s gym April 29th. It is available for students who are in the 4th and 5th grade. The children will have the chance to hear about Jesus, learn about the great game of basketball and enjoy some snacks! Stephen will speak to the church about the event this Sunday. There are opportunities to serve available to us, Highland. Stephen will talk about those when he presents to the church.

Mary Mitchell, who faithfully attends Coffee and Conversation and Worship Service, tragically lost a family member recently. Please pray for Mary and her family as they grieve the loss of their loved one and reach out to her as you are able.

Highland, thank you for reaching out to Randall and surrounding him with love. He remains in Savannah Grand, room 211. You may reach out to him by calling that facility (Savannah Grand), asking to be connected to room 211. He is steadily improving, but has 6 more weeks of rehab to undergo before he can walk. Rallying around right now is vital to his well-being.

Grateful for each of you,

Rob

PLANS FOR SUNDAY MORNING

Sunday mornings, at 9am, Coffee & Conversation takes place in the Firehouse. This time together affords us the most essential ingredients for building relationships – time and togetherness. We also worship together and spend time in God’s Word, as Jo Ellen Holbrook offers us a devotion.

This Sunday, our time together will highlight the glory of Christ through looking at: The Cost of the Cross & The Reward of the Resurrection. As we gather, we will, together, exalt the name of Jesus! Let us lift up His name higher than all of our circumstances, rejoicing over all He has done for us. As the author of Hebrews directs us, let us gather, so that: “Through Him {we} continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God” (Hebrews 13:15–16).
