This Sunday, I have the privilege of facilitating corporate worship. If you were present last Sunday, you heard Justin Shorey speak to the impact of the Breakfast Choir's version of the song “Show Me Your Ways”. In part, we will sing this song as a corporate expression of our hearts this Sunday – ‘the cry of my heart is to love You, Lord…” – may this lyric be Highland’s heart-cry.
We will also hear testimonies from Troy Clark and from Robert Singleton this Sunday. Troy and Robert, we look forward to celebrating Christ at work in your lives alongside you. Camp Rock Eagle
This week, a group of students from Truth Spring Academy attended Rock Eagle. Rock Eagle is a camp for the environmental sciences in the state of Georgia put on by the University of Georgia. The kids took hikes, canoed and learn about the world around them! We celebrate God’s creation, along with the beauty and the majesty of His handiwork!
Highland, how my heart abounds in gratitude over your generous hospitality! Thanks for opening wide our doors to our students. Earlier this week, I was talking with a parent who was dealing with her son’s misconduct. We addressed the matter in the office. She then began to tell me how much she loves Truth Spring Academy. Made my week! Thanks for helping make possible.

Easter Sunday is this Sunday.
Highland,
As we reflect upon and rejoice over what Christ has done for us, let us consider the cost. Jesus, willingly, laid down His life that we might have life-eternal! While we never could fully account for the cost of Jesus' cross, we must rejoice because we do not have to! He bore sin and death for us on that cross, Highland.
Three days later, when Jesus stands on top of sin and death, He takes His rightful position as victor! He has conquered sin and the grave! As we gather this Easter (this Sunday) to offer Him our praise, we exalt Him as our Rescuer, our Lord, the Lion of Judah, the sacrificial lamb of God.
During Sunday’s service, we will hear testimonies from those who’ve seen the Lord at work in their lives. To those who’ve signed up to share a testimony this Easter Season, thank you! If you’re still prayerfully considering sharing, it’s not too late! You can still sign up and take part (see post on website to sign up).

Easter Egg Hunt
Following corporate worship this Sunday, children will have the chance to take part in an Easter Egg hunt during service.
When 0-4 aged children dismiss for nursery this Sunday, our nursery-children will take part in an Easter Egg hunt. During that same timeframe, Elementary-aged students will meet Julie Jordan in our foyer. They will participate in their own egg hunt as well along a different part of our campus.
This Sunday, we will “fast-forward” in the book of Matthew to celebrate the greatest act to take place in all time — the resurrection! Everyone who read last Sunday did a terrific job! Highland, let’s begin this Weekly Update by celebrating Kingdom Sport’s Opening Season. Stephen Wright has taken the time to put together this summary of the season — check it out:
“Thanks to 12 generous donors, Kingdom Sports met its full budget, making the league completely free for all 32 participants—70% of whom were from the North Highland Community.
Four teams of 8- and 9-year-old boys and girls—Celtics, Hawks, Lakers, and Warriors—competed under the leadership of head coaches Joey Bamberger, Joshua Taylor, Billy Holbrook, and JT Overby. Each child received a custom team shirt with a logo on the front and their individual number on the back.
Over the course of the season, teams played 7 regular games and one final matchup. All games were officiated by two referees from the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association and opened with a prayer by a Highland Community Church member.
A total of 31 volunteers helped throughout the season, sharing the gospel each game day using the 5 colors, providing snacks and drinks, and teaching sportsmanship. Van drivers also provided transportation for kids who needed it.
The season ended with a high-energy finale where each participant ran through a tunnel to intro music as their name and number were announced. Families and friends cheered them on before teams gathered for trophies, goodie bags, and cake.

Now that Sunday School Sessions has concluded for this semester, I want to charge us all to gather together with the purposes of praying together, studying together – that our love may abound for one another! Perhaps some of you could make a plan to do lunch together on Sunday afternoons. Families with young children, meet at our playground and pray together while the children play. Even still, perhaps some of us consider grabbing our coffee from the Highland Cafe’ once a week, meeting and ministering to those who come. Consider facilitating a book study this summer, independent of the Sunday school Sessions. Reach out to me to discuss. Or, what are your ideas? We must be intentional about growing in Christ together; it will not happen automatically. We must foster a community of discipleship, Highland.
Over the next two Sundays, we will “fast-forward” in the book of Matthew to Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and work toward the greatest act to take place in all time — the resurrection! Expect a little dash of something special this Sunday during our service. As we proceed to Easter, we celebrate Jesus who, willingly lays down His life, paying for sin and death on our behalf! The Bug @ Standingboy Trails
Highland — I hope your week’s been enjoyable. Truth Spring Academy’s been on Spring Break this week, so I have been taking a stay-cation! From bike riding, to late night movies with popcorn, to turkey hunting – it has been a tremendous break! This picture above shows Jones, my nephew, Jude, my son, and John, my brother, finishing one of the most exhilarating trails a person could ride – The Bug! This was their first time coming down this mile-long downhill thrill, which they loved! Sharing this trail with them was certainly a highlight of the break for me!

This 90 minute, interactive Zoom call will feature the testimonies of persecuted believers in Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia and elsewhere, telling powerful stories of how people are coming to know Jesus even when their lives, families, and careers are at risk. We'll end the time praying live with some of the underground church leaders we've come to know in Myanmar. We particularly recommend this event to youth and teenagers who'd like to get an expanded vision of what God is doing around the world!

David Klaus preaches Sunday.
Sunday’s service was one I will savor. A service that we, indeed, set our affections upon the face of Christ Jesus. How our love abounded for the name of the Lord, and for one another! Services like these can ONLY happen when we commit to staying together, studying together and serving together. Well done, Highland — way to go deeper.
So much feedback about the service has been offered! These after-talks led to David and I discussing forgiveness, which he talked about Sunday, as he led us in prayer. The end-result is that David has volunteered to preach this Sunday on forgiveness! We all look forward to hearing your expanded thoughts on forgiveness, David
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:14-15).
As David referenced last Sunday, forgiveness is the topic next covered in the Sermon on the Mount. So, he’s falling in stride with our series on a topic that he’s excited to cover in a sermon. Last Sunday, we worshiped together singing “Every Praise”, “Where Can I Go That My Maker Won’t Be?”, “10,000 Reasons”, “His Mercy is More” & “The Lord’s Prayer.” In our sermon, we recapped our journey through Matthew 5, then transitioned into Matthew 6. This Sunday, we take on the text of the Lord’s Prayer, found in Matthew 6.
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.”
This Sunday, we gather to worship and pray, Highland. In our series through The Gospel of Matthew, we will pray through the Lord’s prayer, together. Come, ready to worship! Let’s be prepared to think beyond our own circumstances, drawing our hearts to dwell upon the Kingdom of God! Let us know and take our rightful place as seekers of God! In the presence of the Lord, we are called, even commanded, to pray. To do so crucifies flesh, while, at the same time, promotes the glory of God and good of others – those we do not even know (but the Lord does), even our enemies! As we near the end of Kingdom Sport’s Season, I want to thank all of you who’ve supported and served! This ministry is among the most exciting endeavors I have ever seen unfold in the life of our church! I am so appreciative to the Kingdom Sports Team – you all have done a terrific job! Highland, the last session of games will be March 15th, starting at 10am. Let’s show up and support these children!

As we continue through our series, we will be reviewing our journey through Matthew Five, then turning the corner into Matthew Six. I hope to offer you a streamline-of-thought through what we’ve covered, then cover “Love Your Enemies" this Sunday.
“Here’s our text: “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? The Highland Cafe’ continues to open wide our doors with a welcome from Jesus Christ and a warm cup of coffee. Each weekday morning from 8:30-11:30 offers you the chance to come and serve our neighbors, in honor of our Lord. You can also enjoy a cup of coffee, too! Come, serve and be served, all, in the name of Christ Jesus. Furthermore, snacks and coffee essentials, like cream and sugar, would be most appreciated.
