‘Blessed is the Man Who Fears the Lord’
Highland — This Father’s Day, our family made the most of our time around the dinner table. We enjoyed a steak dinner! It was a great meal and a great day! On the other side of the coin, however, I realize Father’s Day can be challenging for many. Throughout Father’s day, I was praying, asking our Heavenly Father to draw near and tend to us all, gently, especially to those who were hurting.
Considering those who are fathers, Casey Strickland read a testimony to us that charged us all to live with integrity last Sunday. What he said can be found in our Prayer Guide. He directed our hearts toward Proverbs 20:7, which states: “The righteous who walk in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!”
Let us, Highland, consider our lives. May our conduct, especially as Fathers, be geared toward doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord, which results in integrity! Finally, men, I present this Psalm as a Biblical outlook for our lives. I do so every year; keeping the tradition alive! Men, by way of God’s Spirit, let these words be etched into the fibers of our character:
“Praise the LORD!
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
who greatly delights in his commandments!
His offspring will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
Light dawns in the darkness for the upright;
he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.
It is well with the man who deals generously and lends;
who conducts his affairs with justice.
For the righteous will never be moved;
he will be remembered forever.”
He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is steady; he will not be afraid,
until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.
He has distributed freely; he has given to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever;
his horn is exalted in honor.
The wicked man sees it and is angry;
he gnashes his teeth and melts away;
the desire of the wicked will perish!”
— Psalm 112
As we pray this week, let’s pray for Tim (on the left). He lost his grandmother.

our series through Matthew
We broke ground on Matthew 17 Sunday. This chapter begins with Jesus being transfigured. Appearing with Moses and Elijah, Jesus is melding together the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets.
Seeing Jesus transfigured is a jaw-dropping moment in Scripture! So much so, that in Peter’s final days, he recalls being on that holy mountain. Clearly, the transfiguration served to transform Peter. What one thinks about in their final moments really points to what one values in their lives!
In 2nd Peter, he uses this moment to offer emboldened-hope to those who love Jesus. May we fan the flames of our faith as we look to Peter’s transformed heart for direction:
“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts…”
May our hearts behold His majestic glory, being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. This Sunday, we continue our series through the Gospel of Matthew. I look forward to seeing you!
